WHO WE ARE
We are The 3068 Group. We are the grassroots of North Fitzroy and Clifton Hill. We are the citizens that inhabit this area. And we are the community that must protect it. The 3068 Group formed in 1998 and first met in North Fitzroy. The group is named after the postcode.
The 3068 postcode straddles the song line that follows the high ground to yingbeal – the Heidi scar tree. In the 1840’s it became the Heidelberg Road, Melbourne’s first road. Part of the road was later renamed to Queens Parade. The border of the old cities of Collingwood and Fitzroy followed the song line along Smith Street and Queens Parade. There were and remain two post offices.
We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people as the Traditional Owners of the lands and waterways where we gather. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present.
As we walk together on country, we recognize that sovereignty was never ceded. In the spirit of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, we commit to the journey of Makarrata—the coming together after a struggle.
We acknowledge the call for Voice, Treaty, and Truth, and we pledge to walk alongside First Nations people in a movement for a better future, rooted in justice, healing, and a shared understanding of our history.
