Piedimontes Objection
3068 Objected to to PLN17-0618 for 27 – 45 Best Street and 102-114 Scotchmer Street, Fitzroy North. This proposal will destroy one of the treasured villages of Yarra. That Yarra’s officers support the application despite their own expert advisors recommending against it brings into disrepute the Yarra Planning Scheme and will be seen as a signal to developers that they can disregard the planning scheme with impunity.

Queens Parade Amendment C231 Built Form Controls

Queens Parade Height Controls and Heritage Protection
Council has adopted an amendment that protects the main shopping precinct of Queens Parade with an 11m mandatory height limit. The 3068 Group argued for the same limit to apply to the block between Gold St and Turnbull Street. The council adopted part of this block to apply a three storey height limit from Gold Street to the 7 Campi Terraces (shown above with timber verandahs). The three storey limit will now cover the former post and telegraph office and individually significant terraces. It leaves a four storey height limit for the 1912 post office and other sites east of the Campi Buildings.

On August 23, Chris Goodman addressed the C231 Planning Panel on behalf of The 3068 Group. This is the text of that submission to the panel. There is a main submission and a collection of appendices.

The 3068 Group attended VCAT to support Councils refusal of an electronic billboard above the Metro in Queens Parade. VCAT upheld councils refusal. An important factor in VCAT’s decision was the heritage character of the parade, and the visibility of the sign in residential areas of Michael Street.

This will be the most damaging project ever to be inflicted on the inner north and will convert the north east into a version of Los Angeles.
The Minister for Planning, Richard Wynne ignored the panel’s findings and the dodgy business case. The government pushes on in secrecy.
This is just the latest in a series of transport planning boondoggles.
